An Install Key is the signature Snapt generates which identifies your hardware or VM uniquely. That means that the license can then be locked to that single installation, preventing people from buying one Snapt license and running it multiple times.
It uses a variable combination of the following information pieces as well as some hidden keys —
- Motherboard and bios information
- Host ID
- Primary disk drive data
- First network card data
- Service key data
There are situations (certain VM setups) where you need to ignore the hard drive information. To do this create a plain file in the path “/etc/snapt/disable_uuid” and we will ignore the UUID of the disk.
